The old Camden Police Station belonging to the Tharawal Local Aboriginal Land Council remains dormant since the new Narellan Police Station will be transformed into the ‘Dharawal Traditional Healing Centre.’ The colonial site in John Street sits at the meeting of three tribal territories, including Tharawal or Dharawal.

The station will heal, educate and reconnect with Tharawal roots through local flora inspired by Aboriginal Traditional Healing Application. This reforms the layout of the Police station into baths, sauna, tea room, Traditional Medicine Shop and garden in reflection of the healing techniques of inhalation, steaming, poultice, infusion and decoction. Drawings, plans and visuals create new meaning in the historic building site through urban planning, architecture and interior architecture.

The concept of ‘Structural Lattice’ reinforces the architecture and shapes the total design of the building to recreate the shape and atmosphere of the building. A space to allow healing without negative experiences in the colonial site will transform the station into a Dharawal Traditional Healing Centre.
